I Am Black: Translated

Many experiences through the years have made it abundantly clear to me just how much of a blessing being Black really is. I think American children learn very early that Blackness is a challenge…that it is something of which to be ashamed or to dread. I do not remember if I was any different, but I do know that I had parents who reminded me of the strength and beauty we have inherited as Black people, an educational experience that reinforced that, and relationships that help me further develop that strength. We are strong because we have to be, and we are beautiful because we were designed to be. When I think of being Black, I am reminded that God makes no mistakes, and that knowledge has been my greatest blessing.
